Overball Might Be Coming Back—and I’m Ready to Cry About It

I don’t usually tear up over headlines, but this one hit different.

It’s been nearly ten years—ten long, aching, gut-wrenching years—since the Letania Lightning last took the field against the Whitehall Anvils. A decade since the drums roared and the crowds surged and the world, briefly, felt alive.

And now it might be coming back.

Sources confirmed this week that preliminary talks have begun for the rebirth of the International Overball League. I don’t want to jinx it, but gods help me, I haven’t felt this kind of hope in ages.

I reached out to Daelan Urvish, the former IOL Chairman (and now, once again, slated to lead the league), and he didn’t mince words.

“Things are only in the beginning stages, but we should be back in full swing by Calius of next year.”

You could’ve knocked me over with a feather.

The league, newly headquartered in Jura rather than Derth (a wise call, considering Clavic politics), will begin accepting city petitions next month. New Elid is already ahead of the curve—they’ve even named their team: the Terismark Traders. It has a nice ring to it.

The proposed emblem for the Terismark Traders.

Urvish said it best:

“The world is in dire need of a morale boost… Nothing gets the people impassioned quite like overball.”

He’s not wrong. We’ve buried too much. We’ve lost friends, family, nations, normalcy. The Curella virus didn’t just take lives—it took our rituals. Overball was more than just a game; it was church, therapy, and riot all in one.

And now, maybe—just maybe—we get a piece of that back.

They say the league could jump-start the economy. I believe it. But I’ll tell you what: even if it didn’t, I’d still want it back. Not for money. Not even for pride.

I want it for the sound a stadium makes when the crowd goes breathless in unison. I want it for the smell of turf, the sting of beer, the roar of victory.

Letania. Whitehall. The Traders. Gods help us—bring them all back.

We need this. I need this.

And if you’re anything like me, I bet you do too.
