CANDERA — In a joint statement released today, the Ministry of Public Affairs of the Averian Court confirmed a catastrophic chemical assault that left more than 3,000 dead in the township of Breversvig, including both civilians and military personnel.
The attack began in the early hours of 14 Calius, when Camp Nether—an Averian military installation just outside the town—was seized by a mutinous sect of religious extremists. Officials say the insurgents, wearing full biological protective gear, deployed chemical agents on the town shortly after capturing the facility.
One soldier, Lieutenant Stantheus Groltein, managed to issue a distress signal during the initial moments of the takeover. Groltein, now hailed as a national hero, reportedly relayed critical intelligence to command at Highthrall before succumbing to the effects of the gas.
In response, the Averian Court ordered a swift and brutal counterstrike. The 3rd Brigade out of Fort Greenbaue shelled the installation and surrounding area with heavy artillery, eliminating the remaining insurgents.
The strike, while effective, came at a cost. Breversvig has been declared a Category 6 toxic zone. The entire settlement was flattened, and the perimeter is now secured with fencing and round-the-clock armed patrols to prevent civilian entry.
The identities and affiliations of the attackers remain unconfirmed. Lieutenant Groltein has been posthumously awarded the Candera Cross, the Averian military’s highest commendation for valor.
